Born in Taiwan and raised in Singapore, Victoria Huang arrived in America at Scripps College in 1992. As one of the 1994 Getty interns, she conducted an inventory of Scripps College Asian textile collection. Her other project involved accessioning approximately 250 Japanese prints and ceramic objects. From 1994 to 1995, she was an exchange student at Waseda University, Tokyo.
Upon graduation, she received a Graduate Study Cash Award from Phi Beta Kappa Alumni in Southern California and went to Columbia University, New York, to pursue her M.A. degree in Art History and Archaeology. Her specialization was Chinese painting of the Ming and Ching dynasties. She completed her M.A. in 1997.
Victoria Huang’s interests cross the fields of Asian art, language education and museum studies. From 2002 to 2005, she taught English as a Foreign Language classes at the Department of Sociology, Tunghai University, Taiwan. She then worked as an assistant curator at the Singapore Art Museum from 2005 to 2007. Her key projects included a photography exhibit, “Legends: Soo Bin’s Portraits of Chinese Ink Masters” and a jointly curated exhibition, “Encounters: Southeast Asian Art in Singapore Art Museum Collection,” which traveled to the National Art Museum of China, Beijing in 2006. She also served as the Museum’s Art Appraisal Committee secretary and artifact donation officer. Following an attachment at the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, Singapore, she is currently pursuing her M.A. in Art Museum and Gallery Studies at the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, and is expected to complete her program in 2010.
