Han-Yuan “Hannie” Chia ’06

Education Programs Manager, The Bronx Museum of the Arts

Han-Yuan “Hannie” Chia ’06Han-Yuan “Hannie” Chia graduated from Scripps College with a major in Studio Art and a minor in Music in 2006.

During her junior year, she took part in the New York Contemporary Art program at Drew University and spent a semester in the Temple Rome program enrolled in art and art history courses. The summer before her senior year she was a Multicultural Getty Intern at the J. Paul Getty Museum’s Department of Photographs and continued to work as a consultant during her senior year. After graduating from Scripps, she worked for over two years at a college counseling organization in Los Angeles and often traveled across the nation giving college tours to high school students. In addition to her full-time job, she curated an exhibition at Mount San Antonio College geared towards individuals who are visually impaired.

After working more or less outside of the arts for two years, Hannie applied for graduate programs with the encouragement from Professor Mary MacNaughton. She recently completed a Masters in Visual Arts Administration, non-profit track, at New York University. Her thesis was entitled, “Integrating Interactive Devices from Science and History Museums into Art Museums: Engaging Adult Audiences.”

As Hannie was finishing her Masters degree, she was a Shape Lab facilitator at the Museum of Modern Art in an interactive space for families and was also the Group Visits Program Coordinator at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. She was recently promoted at the latter museum as the Education Programs Manager to oversee the group visits and family programs, and “tweets” for the museum and you can follow her @bronxmuseum. She is also the co-instructor for the museum’s Teen Council.

Hannie’s interest in the arts was supported and encouraged during her four years at Scripps by several amazing professors. Her experiences on and off campus were extremely valuable and helped her return and to continue working in the arts.
