Abigail Rodriguez ’16

“My experience at Scripps College has proved invaluable to helping launch my career in art conservation,” Rodriguez said. “The interdisciplinary course work, internship opportunities and guidance from supportive faculty all led me to where I am today,” she continued.

In 2016, she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in art conservation and a minor in art history. Through the interdisciplinary course work she developed a keen interest in mural conservation, leading to a thesis on Jose Clemente Orozco’s Prometheus.

Rodriguez notes that strong faculty support and established connections to the arts community provided her opportunities for internships at various institutions, including Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History and National Air and Space Museum.

Since graduating, Rodriguez has been working as an intern and contractor at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and working on preparing a pre-program portfolio for graduate school. She will be attending the Winterthur/University of Delaware’s program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC) this fall. “I am interested in modern/industrial materials and technological collections,” she explained.

On her time at Scripps, Rodriguez added, “I am thankful for the opportunity to have studied the nexus of art and science at a school with such supportive and knowledgeable faculty.”
