The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery has received a grant to Scripps from the Pasadena Art Alliance to support the catalog for the 2020 Ceramic Annual—Scripps College’s 76th entry in the perennially popular exhibit that has been running since World War II.
According to Mary MacNaughton, director of the gallery and associate professor of art history at Scripps College, this marks the 18th consecutive year the effort has been funded by the Pasadena Art Alliance.
“We are grateful for the support of the Pasadena Art Alliance, which has been vital to sustaining the excellence of the Ceramic Annual. The Annual is unique: it is the longest running exhibition of contemporary ceramics in the United States. For seventy-five years, it has increased the audience for contemporary ceramics.” said MacNaughton.
“The exhibition also provides work opportunities for students,” she continued. “Each summer, we involve interns in preparing the exhibition, which gives them valuable pre-professional experience.”
The 75th Ceramic Annual exhibit, which celebrates renowned and lesser-known ceramic artists from the Marer Collection of the College, runs through April 7. Admission to the exhibition is free. The gallery is open to the public and hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12 to 5 pm.
