EXHIBITIONS
Chasing Daylight: Philip Latimer Dike, 1927 – 1943
August 31 – October 13, 2013
Former Scripps professor Philip Dike contributed greatly to the California art scene of the 1930s and 1940s through his work in the California Style of watercolor painting. The exhibition will feature works from Dike’s formative years in the US and Europe during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The exhibition will feature works from the Scripps permanent collection and private lenders. The opening reception, with live music and light refreshments, was held on Sept 14 from 7-9 p.m. at the Williamson Gallery. This event was free and open to the public. A special watercolor workshop will take place on the final day, October 13, from 2 to 4 pm. Focus on Photographs: Building a Collection at Scripps
October 26 – December 15, 2013
Focus on Photographs: Building Photograph Collections at Scripps opens October 26th and runs through December 15th, 2013 at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College. The exhibition features fine photographs and books, including donations by Virginia Adams; C. Jane Hurley Wilson and Michael G. Wilson; Sharon and Michael Blasgen; and Carol Vernon and Robert Turbin. On view will be works by Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Julia Margaret Cameron, Graciela Iturbide, Edward Weston, and many others. The opening reception, with live music and light refreshments, will be held on October 26th from 7-9 p.m. at the Williamson Gallery. That same day, a panel discussion will take place at the Clark Humanities Museum on the Scripps campus from 4-5 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.
Ceramic Annual 2014: 70th Scripps Ceramic Annual
January 25 – April 6, 2014
The Scripps College Ceramic Annual opens for its 70th consecutive year on Jan 25th at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery. The exhibition will feature the work of former Ceramic Annual curators. Peter Held, director of the Ceramic Research Center at Arizona State University, will speak from 4-5 p.m. at the Scripps College Humanities Auditorium. The opening reception, with live music and light refreshments, will be held on Jan. 25 from 7-9 p.m. at the Williamson Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
The Jean and Arthur Ames Fund, the Pasadena Art Alliance, and the Paul Soldner Endowment at Scripps College support the exhibition and catalog. Scripps Senior Exhibition
May 2 – May 18, 2014
An annual exhibition of final thesis projects created by graduating studio art majors, the Senior Art Show is the culmination of the studio art major at Scripps. In addition to producing the works displayed, seniors conceptualize the show, install their pieces, write artist statements, and design publicity for the exhibition. Works are displayed in the gallery for two weeks, through the end of Commencement. An opening reception will be held in the Bixby Courtyard on Friday, May 2, from 7-9 p.m.
