Susan Ball ’69

“Leading a national arts and humanities organization with over 15,000 members has been a challenge. I am continually grateful to Scripps not only for giving me a broad background in the arts and humanities, but also for demanding solid, analytical thinking.”

Susan Ball has been the chief administrative officer of the College Art Association since 1986. She is responsible for the overall supervision and administration of this 82 year old, 15,000 plus member artist/scholar professional association; which oversees the entire range of association governance programs, services, and publications. Prior to going to CAA, Susan held positions such as the Director of Government and Foundation Affairs at the Art Institute of Chicago, Research Associate at the Real Estate Board of New York, and Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Delaware. After receiving her B.A. in European Thought and Culture at Scripps, Susan earned her M.A. in Art History at the University of California, Riverside, and her Ph.D. in Art History and Architecture at Yale University.
