Teale Hatheway ’00

Teale Hatheway ’00“In my work, I strive to convey the souls of architectures as we have envisioned them, built them, lived with them and, often times, forgotten them. In so doing, I am creating artworks that are culturally relevant and reverent. By combining diverse expressive resources and materials from historic and contemporary art, I strive for a fresh take on painting technique. My formalist pursuits are bolstered by inspirations garnered through my research and experiences. Rendering these inspirations into my art lends conceptual depth to seemingly simple subjects. My goal is to make art that is culturally, historically, and socially honest while rejoicing in our shared desire for beauty.

My Scripps education was pivotal in helping me develop the foundation needed to assess why I feel passionately about my chosen subject, the curiosity to explore my interests in depth as well as breadth, and the tools to be able to communicate my ideas with the world around me. Scripps’ emphasis on Humanities gave me crucial insight into the human condition while the supportive art faculty pushed me to forge new paths in creative exploration.”
