Flux
Opens April 30th, 2022 | 7-9 PM
Our lives have been in a constant state of flux over the last two years, forcing us to adapt as the pandemic pulls us at its will. Flux, the first in-person Scripps Senior Art Show since 2019, grapples with identity, change, and personal history in times of transition, from the perspectives of eight artists searching for stability in the wake of lost time. The opening reception is April 30th from 7pm to 9pm at the Williamson Gallery, featuring live music and light refreshments. The exhibition runs through May 15th and features work by Sophie Cleator, Sophie Doane, Kenza Fernandez, Sophie Fron, Margaret Kraus, Madeleine Neff, Grace Tomblin Marca, and Carrie Young. The accompanying exhibition catalog includes images of the artworks and artist statements.
Flux is curated by the featured artists themselves and celebrates the culmination of their artistic studies at the Claremont Colleges. The artists’ individual practices combine to create a dynamic, multi-media exhibition, with works that include wire sculpture, encaustic and acrylic painting, photography, video art, hand-drawing, and digital illustration. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm during exhibitions. Admission is free.
We seniors express our sincere gratitude towards the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery and the Scripps Art Faculty who have helped make this exhibition possible. We are grateful for assistance from the Scripps Fine Arts Foundation, the Mary N. Freedman Fund, and the Lori Bettison-Varga Fund. Finally, special thanks goes out to our friends and family at the Claremont Colleges and beyond for their continual love and support.
