Scripps 2012 Senior Art Exhibition

After a year’s preparation, ten senior studio art majors at Scripps College present their thesis work at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery with an exhibition that runs through May 12, 2012.

The artists, each selected by the college’s art faculty to participate, focus on a wide range of media, including mixed media installations; drawing and painting; photography; collage; video; performance; graphic design portraiture; and ceramics. The works are just as varied, and encompass social networking trends; women represented in video games; a survey of erotica throughout history; breaching traditional representations of female identity; the Claremont Apartments; sculpture and adaptation; gratitude; the links between art, fashion, and identity; and lastly, transhumanist representation. An interesting twist to the exhibition is the fact that it is planned, installed, and advertised by the artists themselves, in this case: Lily Burgess, Lauren Escobar, Vivian Haesloop, Katherine Hegarty, Asia Morris, Allison Perry, Michelle Plotkin, Lili Salzberg, Krista Sharpe, and Tiffany Yau. As the students worked with the many aspects of creating an exhibition, they were guided by Professor Susan Rankaitis and the Williamson Gallery staff, in particular Collections Manager and Registrar Kirk Delman and Gallery Installer T Robert.

Admission is free and open to the public.  During the run of the exhibition, the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery  is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, please contact the Gallery at (909) 607-3397.
